Smoked goodies and canoe fun

The gastronomic journey continues and this time we've been sampling Nova Scotia's smoked salmon offerings.

Stopping along the Eastern Shore whenever we see a smokehouse sign, we've been able to test out some seriously yummo smokey treats.

It's now a mid-morning routine for us to snack on sticks of smoked salmon. Au revoir to the 10.30 toasted sambo!

We're making the most of the delights while we're here and our travelling companions have been only too happy to indulge in them with us.

The Eastern Shore's Marine Drive has been a beautiful route but one that maybe deserved better shock absorbers.

The roadside sign said it all: "no tax base means no road base".
Clearly the area, while beautiful, is having some issues! Luckily, Bubble and Bessie have made it through unscathed.

Camping the night near Stillwater, we had a great campfire session with a pair of Nova Scotians, Candice and Rich, along with little Carmen, who the kids had a fantastic play session with.

After more scenic driving and playground fun, our next night was at Upper Lakeville, where we took all the kids out peddle boating and canoeing.

Peddle boating is not for us we've decided.

With Indy refusing to peddle: "The peddles are going round too fast Dad!" and with the rudder seemingly inoperable, we limped the vessel back to shore and instead took out a canoe.

Now THAT'S more like it!

"This is livin' Dad!" says Indy.

Close to shore, the kids all jumped off the boats out into the black water to make their way to the 'beach' for a play session.

Cold and rainy conditions can't dampen their spirits!
